Rising from the Thar like a mirage of honey-coloured stone, Jaisalmer Fort is one of the world's few living forts — a citadel where families still live within its ramparts.
Built of yellow Jaisalmer sandstone, the fort glows honey-gold at sunrise and a deep amber at sunset, earning the city its name — the Golden City.
It is one of the very few "living forts" in the world, with a large part of the old town still inhabited inside its ramparts — homes, temples, shops and havelis all within the walls.
This landmark is one of the highlights we cover on our Jaisalmer tours and sightseeing packages.
